Waikiki: The Bus

Note the capital "B" on "Bus", because that's how they spell it all over Hawaii. There is really no place you would want to go on the island of Oahu that you can't get to by regular city bus. Adults pay $1.75 and kids 75 cents (exact change only, paper bills accepted). The buses (or perhaps, The Buses) stop all over the main streets in Waikiki, and many have explanatory signs that say stuff like "Jefferson Street via Pearl Harbor."

We rode The Bus constantly, and, in our disguise as loser tourists, encountered only one unpleasant bus driver who, to be fair, had probably been asked 800 times that day alone if his bus went back to Waikiki. Instead, you'll likely find the drivers to be helpful and at times, even humorous. Tell them where you are heading and ask them to tell you went to get off the Bus.

If you'd like, you can even ride the bus around the perimeter of the whole darn island for $1.75, though it takes a l-o-n-g time. Pick a nice driver if you are going to do this, OK? (you can get directions on how to do it here).

Call The Bus at (808) 848-5555 for directions and route information, or, of course, visit them on-line at The Bus.
