Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay, California is a quaint coastal town conveniently located just 30 minutes from San Francisco and Silicon Valley. It†s typical of many northern California beach towns with its stunning vistas, cool temperatures (and cold water, brrrr!), rolling mountains and relaxed âہ"vacation†atmosphere. The abundance of public beaches provide endless entertainment for the entire family â€â€œ fishing, surfing, sand-castle building, tide-pooling, hiking, sun-bathing and more. What†s not to like???
Where to Stay
The surrounding area provides a variety of lodging options, but I find the Best Western Half Moon Bay Lodge a particularly good find. It†s a Spanish style hotel located just a couple miles south of downtown along scenic Hwy 1. An outdoor pool and hot tub provide additional aquatic entertainment if the beach wasn†t enough. The rooms are large and clean. Try to book a room overlooking the Arnold Palmer designed golf course â€â€œ the view is fabulous and you can feel your blood pressure drop as you look over the Cypress and Monterey trees that line the fairway. Did I mention they have fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby every afternoon?

Most, if not all, of the restaurants welcome and cater to families with children. While Yelpers give Tres Amigos 3.5 stars, they give free chips with your order and they have a salsa bar, I still wouldn†t recommend it. We found it dark, kinda dirty, and the food mediocre. Fortunately, other dining options abound at plenty of other Half Moon Bay restaurants. You can get almost any type of cuisine, from Japanese and Thai to Italian and nouveau California.
Downtown provides plenty of opportunities for shopping and strolling in a family-friendly, relaxed environment. Downtown boasts specialty shops and a couple grocery stores to meet everyone†s needs.
