Yavapai Visitors' Center

The Yavapai Visitors' Center is good, especially for older kids. There are some indoor and (mostly) outdoor exhibits that trace the history and geology of the Grand Canyon, as well as provide info on the area's wildlife. The displays all do require reading skills (yours or the kid's) to enjoy and learn from.

The area is hot and dry and reachable only by car to nearby Mather Point or shuttle bus right to the Center. Clean restrooms and water are available, and the Visitor Center is the site for some Ranger presentations. It is also where you finish up the Junior Ranger program and get your certificate and badge. The Center also has a bookstore with pretty much what the other stores have and the Grand Canyon's Lost and Found office.
