Washing Clothes

Try and find out if you can wash clothes easily where you'll be. For example, are there coin laundries in Japan (actually yes, but usually in residential areas you'll be unlikely to visit as tourists)? If you can wash clothes fairly easily where you'll be, you'll make a good trade, exchanging a hour or two in the laundry for two weeks of carrying around less stuff.

Take along clothes soap and you can wash in sinks and tubs. Woolite works very well as it rinses out easier and more completely than machine soaps. If you can wash, you can bring fewer clothes. Some things are just easier to pack though, such as panties and socks. I can handle a shirt worn twice if needed, but don't find that socks worn twice, the second day damp, add anything to my vacation.
